COMMUNITY-LED INITIATIVES

Love Out Loud serves as the backbone organization for a number of community-led initiatives that take place all around Winston Salem (and beyond!). Take a look at the initiatives below and find ways to get engaged through volunteering or giving!


Brownsboro

Brownsboro Community Partnership

Serving students that live in the Brownsboro Rd Community with Summer Lunch Cafe, Brownsboro U (tutoring), and other fun activities.

Christmas for the City (CFTC)

Since 2008, local churches, businesses and members of the arts community have come together to throw a free citywide Christmas party that features live music and arts performances, original work by local artists, a make-your-own toy workshop and, Santa Claus. Learn More.

Cycle Recycle

Cycle Recycle

Cycle Recycle is a program that started in conjunction with CFTC’s Gift Mart to collect and restore bicycles for children. Now throughout the year, volunteers get together to repair or refurbish used bicycles to prepare them to go out to individuals all over our community.

Disaster Relief

From coordinating trips to Houston, TX and Eastern NC after hurricanes to support with home repairs to assisting with mask distribution and food support in the first 6 months of COVID to assisting with reimbursements for individuals impacted by the Weaver Fertilizer Fire this fund is kept active to support our community with local disaster relief.


Drum Majors Alliance

The Drum Majors Alliance is a black led, multi-racial, Winston-Salem based coalition of activists seeking to do justice, love mercy, & walk in humble reflection of Jesus of Nazareth.

Our mission is to equip, organize, and mobilize disciples of Jesus to be drum majors for justice and peace in the world, and revolutionary oneness in the Church.

Education

Supporting community and WS/FCS education initiatives including backpack/school supply distributions, community led education support, and other education adjacent work to create a more equitable educational environment.

Fearless Mutual Aid

Fearless Winston Salem is a collaborative collective for and by women and non-binary folks. Their mutual aid fund provides assistance to residents of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County through our membership and community assistance.

Fearless WS works in partnership with Love Out Loud for their Mutual Aid Fund through Love Out Loud's Fiscal Sponsorship Program.

Fostering Families Resource Center

Fostering Families Resource Center (FFRC) supports the growing and urgent needs of foster children, their families and the welfare agencies in northwest North Carolina.

They provide necessary resources and support according to the individual needs of the families and children in care, at no cost to them. 


Freedom Schools

Freedom Schools is a program started by the Children’s Defense Fund. It’s a culturally affirming summer program which instills a love of reading and empowers scholars to excel in their ability to make a difference.

Winston Salem currently has 9 Freedom School sites serving students across Forsyth County. You can learn how to support all of the work through our partners at Action4Equity as well as specifically at the LIT City Freedom School.

Gift Mart

The Gift Mart provides an opportunity for parents to purchase, in a store-type setting, new and like new toys and gifts for their children (including tween and teens) at greatly reduced prices for Christmas. Families who shop at the Gift Mart are referred to us through the non-profits and churches with whom we partner.

Joy Prom

Joy Prom is a full-scale community sponsored prom for guests with different abilities and special needs ages 16 and above. However, Joy Prom is much more than just a dance, it’s an opportunity to build unity by celebrating the beauty in all our uniqueness and by showing love and support to some of the most special members of our community. Joy Prom is completely FREE for all attendees and therefore depends entirely on the generosity of our donors and volunteers to happen each year.

L.I.T. City

Lit City youth development does leadership development, mentoring & advocacy, sports & fitness, & arts with students on the margins.

L.I.T. City, a program reaching students in the WS/FC school system.


Love Out Loud - YADKIN

Love Out Loud Yadkin is committed to partnering with Yadkin County residents, churches and organizations to transform the county with the love of Jesus by connecting and mobilizing its people and resources. Learn More.

School of Love

School of Love is about love-rooted discipleship. We seek to follow Christ into deep love of God and neighbor through an intentional way of living in our time: life together in Christ for others. Various strands of historic Christian expression inform our pursuit. The result is a discipleship that emphasizes deep formation into the Jesus-way, and justice, liberation, and beloved community across systemic divides in our city. Learn More.

Second Chance Ministries

Second Chance Ministries’ purpose is to extend God’s love and grace to the forgotten, uncelebrated, invisible and misunderstood. Second Chance is a ministry that no matter your past, you can start over and get a “second chance” with Jesus. You are loved where you are. The program will begin with Life Coaching from a certified Life Coach, lay counseling, and assistance with resources and basic needs for individuals in Davidson County.

Student Camp

Mobilizing students (6th - 12th) in the Winston-Salem area to make a lasting, Gospel-inspired, transformational impact on their city and themselves.

Love Out Loud Student Camp started in 2018. The leadership is passionate about uniting students from churches across Winston-Salem to make an impact on their city and themselves.


Una Bendición / A Blessing

Una Bendición Centro de Conexión / A Blessing Connection Center serves families and neighbors in Northeast Winston-Salem with food and other needed household items. Our program provides a point of connection between Spanish-speaking families and the many available resources in our city. In addition to the food pantry, we plan to provide classes and resources for youth and adults in the future.

Uniform Mart

The Uniform Mart partners with Speas Elementary to help provide uniforms for families who need them in this Title One school. The team brings in new and lightly used uniforms to be purchased at reduced prices or traded for uniforms that are too small.

Winston Salem Pickup Association

The Winston Salem Pickup Association’s mission is to create a welcoming soccer community that facilitates organized year-round open-play soccer that is inclusive of all backgrounds, ages, and skill levels. WSPA partners with Love Out Loud as one of their community-led initiatives to be better equipped to tackle creating equitable opportunities and pathways to playing soccer for adults and youth in Forsyth County
